Prophetic Prayers

Prophetic prayer starts with listening, and ends with testing what you heard.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27

Don’t quench the Spirit. Don’t despise prophesies. Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21

Lord, I want to hear You, not just talk to You. Quiet my mind, and help me listen. If You put someone on my heart, show me how to pray for them, and give me the humility to pray what You show me, not what I want. I won’t quench Your Spirit, and I won’t believe everything I feel. Help me test it against Your word. Keep me from pride, and keep me from fear. In Jesus’ name, amen.

If God gives you words for someone, they should build up, encourage, and comfort.

But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, exhortation, and consolation. 1 Corinthians 14:3

Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1

Father, if You give me words for someone, let them build up, encourage, and comfort. Don’t let me speak for You when You haven’t spoken. Don’t let me use Your name to say what I want. Give me discernment to test every word, mine and others’, by Scripture. Make me gentle, honest, and willing to be corrected. Let every word I say point to Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the believer who wants more of the Spirit, with love first.

Follow after love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:1

It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17

Lord, I desire the gifts of Your Spirit, but I desire love more. If You want to give me the gift of prophecy, I’m willing, and I’ll hold it with humility. Pour out Your Spirit on my family, my church, and my city. Let sons and daughters, young and old, hear You. Keep us rooted in Your word, and keep us from chasing experiences. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the day gets loud, listen first.

Lord, before the noise of the day starts, I’m listening. Speak to me through Your word, and through the quiet. Show me who to pray for, who to encourage, and what to say no to. Keep me from running ahead of You. I want to walk with You today, one step at a time. In Jesus’ name, amen.
