Prayers for Anointing

The anointing is the Holy Spirit with you. Ask for more of Him.

You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. 1 John 2:20

As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him. 1 John 2:27

Holy Spirit, I ask You to fill me and lead me. You’ve already put Your anointing on every believer, so I’m not asking for something I lack. I’m asking to walk in what You’ve given. Teach me, guide me, and keep me close to Jesus. Don’t let me bury what You’ve put in my hands. Make me faithful with it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the work God has called you to.

Lord, I ask for Your anointing on the work You’ve given me. I can’t do it in my own strength. Go before me, and make what I do count. Give me wisdom for the next step, and peace in the middle of it. Let people see You in how I serve. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the Spirit’s presence in your family and your church.

Now he who establishes us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God; who also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

Father, I ask for the anointing of Your Spirit on my family and on our church. Give us hunger for You, unity with each other, and joy in serving. Seal us as Yours, and give us the Spirit in our hearts as a promise of what is to come. Let us be a people You are glad to work through. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Bold, and honest about where the power comes from.

Lord, I don’t want power for myself. I want Your Spirit, so I can love people well and serve with courage. Strengthen me for what’s ahead. Let me say what You want said, and stay quiet when You want me quiet. Keep me humble. Everything good in me comes from You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When you pray for yourself, or for someone who is sick.

Father, I come to You in prayer, asking for the anointing of Your Spirit. Where there is sickness, bring healing. Where there is fear, bring peace. Where there is weakness, give strength. Let Your presence rest on every person I pray for. Be near, and do what only You can do. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the day starts, ask Him to go with you.

Holy Spirit, before the day starts, I’m asking You to go with me. Lead me in every conversation and decision. Give me what I need to serve well. Keep me close to Jesus, and let my day be shaped by You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
