Prayers for Conviction

Ask Him to tell you, gently and clearly, when you are going the wrong way.

Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way. Psalm 139:23-24

Holy Spirit, make me sensitive to Your voice. When I’m going the wrong way, tell me, gently and clearly. Don’t let me ignore You, or explain it away. Show me what You want to change, and give me the courage to change it. I want to be clean more than I want to be comfortable. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Conviction is love, not condemnation.

For godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world produces death. 2 Corinthians 7:10

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1

Lord, thank You that conviction comes from love. You don’t want me ashamed. You want me free. Where You’ve been pressing on my heart, I’m listening now. I’m sorry. Turn my sorrow into real change, not just regret. Thank You for being patient with me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For your family, your church, and the people who need to hear Him.

Father, I’m asking You to convict hearts: mine, my family’s, my church’s. Where we’ve gotten comfortable, wake us up. Where we’ve hurt each other, bring us back. Let us be quick to listen and quick to repent. Do it gently, and do it thoroughly. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For when you want to pray with real faith, not half-heartedly.

Lord, I want to pray with conviction, not with doubt. Give me faith that believes You hear me. When I pray, let it be with my whole heart. Take away my half-hearted prayers and replace them with trust. I believe You are able. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the day begins, tune your heart to His.

Lord, before this day begins, tune my heart to Yours. Let me notice when I’m off track, and give me the humility to turn. Keep me from ignoring You, and from beating myself up. Lead me in the right way today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
