Prayers of Thanks for Healing

Prayers to thank God after illness, surgery, or a long season of recovery.

“Yahweh my God, I cried to you, and you have healed me.”Psalm 30:2 · World English Bible

From the other side of sickness: a plain thank-you.

Lord, I’m healed, and I want to say thank You before I move on with my life. I remember how it felt to be afraid, and how long the nights were. You were with me in all of it. Thank You for every doctor, nurse, and friend who helped. Thank You for strength coming back, even on the small days. Let me not forget what this felt like, and let me be kinder to people who are still hurting. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Pick the one that fits today.

When your heart is full and you want to say it out loud.

Father, my heart is full today. What I feared did not win, and I’m thankful. I know I don’t deserve to be spared more than anyone else, and I’m still grateful that You were gracious to me. Teach me to treat each day as a gift. Thank You for the people who cared for me, and for the prayers I never knew about. Help me live in a way that shows You healed me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For a thanksgiving table, a church service, or a quiet moment after the news.

God of all comfort, thank You for the healing You have brought into our family. At our table today, we remember the hard days, and we thank You for the good ones. Thank You for the doctors and for the prayers. Thank You that You are the One who heals, who stays, and who finishes what You start. We give You the credit and the glory. Keep us thankful when the next hard season comes. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the slow weeks after surgery or illness, when you’re better but not yet well.

Then they cry to Yahweh in their trouble, he saves them out of their distresses. He sends his word, and heals them, and delivers them from their graves. Psalm 107:19-20

For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5

Lord, I’m getting better, and I thank You. It’s slow, and some days I can’t tell. But I know I’m not where I was. Thank You for every small step forward. Give me patience with my body, and rest when I need it. Keep me from rushing, and keep me from fear. I trust You to finish the healing You started. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A short thank-you, in the words of the Psalms.

Yahweh my God, I cried to you, and you have healed me. Psalm 30:2

You have turned my mourning into dancing for me. You have removed my sackcloth, and clothed me with gladness, To the end that my heart may sing praise to you, and not be silent. Yahweh my God, I will give thanks to you forever! Psalm 30:11-12

Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me. You turned my mourning into dancing, and I don’t have words big enough. So I’ll say it simply: thank You. Let my heart sing to You and not be silent. I will give thanks to You forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

If you are still waiting, start here, and come back to give thanks.

Heal me, O Yahweh, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise. Jeremiah 17:14

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3

God, You are the One who heals, so I’m bringing this to You. Heal what is broken in my body, and what is broken in my heart. Give the doctors wisdom, and give me peace when I can’t control the results. I’m tired and afraid, and I need You near. Whatever You do, be with me in it. I trust You with my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Start the day grateful for how far He has brought you.

Lord, thank You for this morning, and for the strength to get out of bed. I don’t take it for granted. Thank You for how far You’ve brought me. Help me use this day well, and be gentle with myself where I’m still healing. Let me carry this gratitude into everything I do today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
