Thankful Prayers for Friends

For the people God put in your life, and the ones who stayed.

“A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.”Proverbs 17:17 · World English Bible

For a quiet moment when you realize how much your friends have carried you. Pray it with their faces in mind.

Lord, thank You for my friends. I didn’t earn them, and I couldn’t have found them on my own. You brought each one into my life at the right time. Thank You for the friend who answered when I called late at night. Thank You for the one who remembered what I was worried about and asked how it went. Thank You for the laughter that made a hard week lighter. Bless each of them today. Meet them in the places where they’re tired, and let them know they are loved. Help me be the kind of friend they have been to me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Eight more prayers of thanks for friends

Pick the one that fits today.

For giving thanks for one friendship in particular. Say their name wherever it fits.

Father, I want to thank You for this friendship. For the years, or the months, You’ve given us. For the conversations that went deeper than I expected. For the times we disagreed and still stayed close. You knew I would need someone who tells me the truth and stays anyway. Thank You for that gift. Guard this friendship from distance, busyness, and pride. Where I’ve taken it for granted, forgive me. Teach me to say thank you out loud, not only to You, but to them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For when you count your blessings and keep coming back to the same few names.

God, my heart is full of gratitude today, and so much of it has a name and a face. Thank You for friends who knew me before I had things figured out, and loved me anyway. Thank You for the ones who showed up with a meal, a ride, or time they didn’t really have. I see Your kindness in theirs. Don’t let me forget who stood with me. Turn my gratitude into action, so I show up for them the way they showed up for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For Thanksgiving Day, at the table or on the way there. Or for a friend who can’t be with you this year.

Lord, on this day of thanks, I’m thinking of my friends. Some are at this table. Some are far away, and I miss them. Thank You for every one of them. Thank You for the friend who made this year easier just by being there. Bless the food we share and the stories we tell. Be with the friends spending today alone, or grieving, or working. Let them feel remembered. Fill our homes with peace and our hearts with thanks, not only today, but all year long. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A prayer you can send to a friend. Copy it, or read it to them out loud.

Lord, I thank You for my friend. When I look back on this year, I see the places where You sent them to me. They listened when I needed to talk. They prayed when I couldn’t find the words. They made me laugh when I’d forgotten how. Friend, I thank God for you. You have been His kindness in my life more times than you know. Lord, bless my friend today. Keep them close to You, and let them feel how loved they are. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the friends who pray for you. Now pray for them.

Father, thank You for the friends who pray for me. Some of them prayed when I didn’t know it. Some prayed when I was too worn out to pray for myself. Their prayers carried me through days I can’t explain any other way. Thank You for hearing them. Now I lift them up to You. Answer the prayers they whisper for themselves. Give them rest, strength, and joy. Let them never feel like they are praying alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For remembering where good friends come from, especially when you’re tempted to take them for granted.

God, every good gift comes from You, and friendship is one of the best. You saw that it wasn’t good for us to be alone, and You gave us each other. Thank You for that. Thank You for friends who make me braver, kinder, and more honest. I don’t want to treat this gift lightly. Help me protect it with patience and forgiveness. Help me notice the lonely person nearby, and be a friend the way You have been a friend to me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Read these slowly, and let each one bring a friend to mind.

A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17

Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; so does earnest counsel from a man’s friend. Proverbs 27:9

Therefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as you also do. 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Always rejoice. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Before the day starts and the messages come in.

Lord, before I open my phone, I want to start with thanks. Thank You for another morning, and for the people You’ve put in my life. Bring my friends to mind as I pray. Go ahead of each of them into today. Where they are anxious, give them peace. Where they are tired, give them strength. Show me one friend I should reach out to today, and give me the words. I start this day grateful, and I want to end it the same way. In Jesus’ name, amen.
