Prayer for Strength

For the day you still have to get through, and you are already out of your own strength.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”Psalm 46:1 · World English Bible

If you are running on empty with a full day still ahead, start here. Pray it slowly, and change any line that isn’t true for you.

God, I’m at the end of what I have. I’ve been telling everyone I’m fine, but You already know I’m not. I’m tired in places sleep doesn’t reach. I’m not asking You to make today easy. I’m asking You to hold me through it. Be the strength I ran out of. When people need me today, give me enough for them, and enough left over to come back to You. And when I want to quit halfway through, remind me that You haven’t moved. You are my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. I’m leaning my whole weight on that today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ten prayers for strength

Pick the one that fits today.

For the moments when a long prayer is too much. Say it once, or say it every hour.

Lord, I don’t have many words today. I’m tired, I’m behind, and I’m not sure I can carry what’s in front of me. So I’m giving You the little I have. Be my strength for the next hour, and then the hour after that. Hold me together when I can’t hold myself. I trust You with what I can’t fix. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When your body is still but your mind keeps running through tomorrow.

Father, quiet the part of me that keeps rehearsing tomorrow. I’ve carried this conversation in my head all day, playing every way it could go wrong. I’m putting it down now. You are not anxious about any of it, so let me borrow Your calm. Keep my heart where my feet are. Give me strength for what is actually in front of me, not for every fear I’ve imagined. Guard my mind with a peace that doesn’t make sense on paper. When the worry comes back, and it will, turn me toward You again. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For a hard season that has lasted longer than you thought you could take.

Lord, this season is longer than I thought I could take. I used to ask You when it would end. Now I’m just asking You to stay. Some mornings I remember everything before I’m even out of bed. Meet me in that moment. You never promised me an easy road, but You promised me Yourself, and I’m holding on to that. Let it be enough today, even if I can’t feel it. Carry what I can’t carry. Remind me that this is a chapter, not the whole story. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When you have to decide something and you can’t see far enough ahead.

God, I’m not sure which way is right, and I’m tired of guessing. I’ve made the lists, asked for advice, and lain awake thinking it through. Now I’m asking You. Walk slightly ahead of me, close enough that I can follow. Close the doors I shouldn’t walk through, even the ones I want. Make the next step clear, and I’ll stop asking for the whole map. Give me strength to do the right thing when it isn’t the easy thing. And if I get it wrong, don’t let me get lost. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the hard conversation, the honest decision, or the thing you keep putting off.

Lord, give me courage for the conversation I keep avoiding. I’ve rehearsed it a hundred times, and I’m still afraid. I’m not asking for courage that feels like confidence. I’m asking for courage that moves anyway. Go in before me. Soften what I cannot soften, in them and in me. Put the right words in my mouth, and keep the wrong ones out. Help me be honest without being harsh. Whatever happens next, remind me that I never walk into any room alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the hour you are not sure you can finish what you started.

Father, I don’t want to quit. I just don’t know how to keep going. I’ve been strong for a long time, and I’m running out. You give power to the weak and strength to those who have none left. That’s me today. I’m not asking for wings right now, just the next hour. Help me take one more step, make one more call, finish one more thing. When I look at how far is left, turn my eyes back to You. Let me finish this day still holding on to You, even if my grip is weak. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When your body is worn out, your faith feels thin, and you need help with both.

Lord, my body is tired and my faith is thin. I’m not sure which one gave out first. Meet me in both. You made all of me, so don’t heal only half. Steady my hands for the work I have to do today. Steady what I believe, because it’s harder to trust You when I’m this empty. Renew my strength the way You promised. Give me rest that actually restores me. And when I feel far from You, remind me that You haven’t gone anywhere. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Read these slowly, out loud if you can. When your own words run out, let God’s words carry you.

Those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Isaiah 41:10

The Lord is my strength and my shield. My heart has trusted in him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices. With my song I will thank him. Psalm 28:7

Be strong and courageous. Don't be afraid. Don't be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

When someone you love is carrying something heavy, and all you can do is pray.

God, someone I love is carrying something I can’t lift. You know their name. You know the part they haven’t told me, and the part they haven’t told anyone. Be nearer to them tonight than I can be. Give them strength for the morning, and rest that actually comes. Surround them with people who show up. Where they feel forgotten, let them feel held. And if there is something for me to do, make it obvious, and give me the courage to do it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before you open your messages, and before the day starts asking things of you.

Lord, before this day asks anything of me, I’m asking You. I don’t know what’s coming, but You already do. Give me what I need as it comes, not before. I don’t need to see the whole day. I just don’t want to face any of it alone. Let my first words be to You, and let me come back to You when the morning gets loud. Keep my heart soft and my mind clear. Let me end today still standing, still Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.
