Prayer for New Beginnings

For the start of something new, whether you chose it or not.

“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you.”Joel 2:25 · World English Bible

Often searched as “prayers for new beginnings” or “new beginnings prayer”.

Lord, I’m at the start of something new, and I’m both excited and scared. Thank You for this new beginning. Go ahead of me into it. Give me courage to step forward, wisdom to choose well, and humility to ask for help. Whatever this new chapter holds, let it be written with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Prayers for new beginnings

Pick the one that fits today.

For starting over after you’ve made a mess of things. Often searched as “prayer for a new beginning”.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Father, I need a new beginning. I’ve made a mess of some things, and I can’t undo them. But You make all things new. Forgive me, clear the slate, and give me the strength to start again today. Restore the years I’ve wasted, and teach me to walk differently from here. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Short enough to pray on the first morning.

Lord, this is a new start, and I give it to You. Lead me, guard me, and grow me. Let me not repeat yesterday’s mistakes, and let me trust You with tomorrow. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Leaving the old behind.

Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

Lord, I’m leaving the old behind: the guilt, the regrets, the old ways of thinking. Help me forget what lies behind and press on toward what’s ahead. Give me a fresh start in my heart, not just in my circumstances. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Starting over in a life you didn’t plan.

Lord, my marriage ended, and I’m starting over in a life I didn’t plan. Heal the hurt. Help me forgive, rebuild, and trust again in Your time. Be close to my children through the change. Show me that You can make something good out of what was broken. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A new beginning you never asked for.

The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18

Lord, life after this loss feels like a new beginning I never asked for. Everything is different now. Help me take the first steps without guilt for moving forward. Carry the memories with me, and show me the purpose You still have for my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For day one, or day one again: sobriety, recovery, a habit you’re leaving behind.

It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Lord, I’m starting over in recovery. Today is day one, again. I can’t do this on my own strength, and I’m done pretending I can. Give me the grace for just today. Put the right people around me, and help me be honest when I’m struggling. Your mercies are new this morning, and I’m counting on them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When you’ve moved and don’t know anyone yet.

Lord, I’ve moved somewhere new, and I don’t know anyone yet. Help me find a church, a few friends, and my way around. When I feel lonely, be near. Make this unfamiliar place feel like home in time. In Jesus’ name, amen.

On the first morning of something new.

Good morning, Lord. Today is the first day of something new. Before I begin, I give it to You. Steady my nerves, clear my head, and walk with me through every first. In Jesus’ name, amen.
