“It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.”Lamentations 3:22-23 · World English Bible

For the evening of December 31. Often searched as “new years eve prayer”.

Lord, it’s the last night of the year. Before the countdown, I want to stop and thank You. You were faithful in every month, even the ones I barely got through. Forgive me for what I got wrong. Help me leave behind what I can’t change. And as the clock turns, let me step into the new year holding Your hand. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Looking back over the year, month by month. Often searched as “prayer for the end of the year”.

Father, as this year ends, I look back month by month. Thank You for the answered prayers, for the people You sent, for the meals and the paychecks and the mornings I woke up healthy. I bring You the regrets too. Thank You for staying with me through all of it. Let me end this year grateful and begin the next one hopeful. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For December 31, and the things you didn’t get to.

So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12

Lord, this is the last day of the year. Teach me to number my days, to see that each one was a gift. As this one closes, I give You the unfinished things: the conversations I didn’t have, the goals I didn’t reach. Carry them with me into tomorrow, or help me let them go. Thank You for every one of these 365 days. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For a watch night service, the New Year’s Eve tradition of praying the old year out and the new year in. Black churches have kept it since Freedom’s Eve, December 31, 1862.

Lord, we’re watching and praying as this year ends, the way Your people have done for generations. We remember how You’ve brought us through: through danger, through grief, through seasons we thought would never end. We thank You for freedom and for faithfulness. As midnight comes, we give You the year ahead. Keep us watching for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the last ten seconds of the year.

Ten, nine, eight... Lord, as everyone counts down, I want my first thought of the new year to be You. Thank You for getting me here. Whatever happens after midnight, I’m Yours. Bless the people around me tonight, and the ones I love who are far away. Happy New Year, Lord. Amen.

A short opening prayer for an office, team, or church year-end party.

Lord, thank You for this team and this year of work together. Thank You for what we built, for problems solved and lessons learned. Bless this food and the people who prepared it. Let tonight be full of good conversation and real thanks. Give everyone here rest over the holidays and a good start to the new year. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When this was the year you lost someone.

Lord, everyone around me is celebrating, and I’m not sure I can. This year took someone I love. Part of me doesn’t want to leave the year they were still in. Hold me tonight. Let me carry their memory into the new year without being crushed by it. And remind me that in You, no one is ever truly lost. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Set the alarm for January 1, and let the first thing you say be a prayer.

Lord, when this alarm rings on the first morning of the year, let me talk to You first. Before the resolutions, before the messages, before the news: good morning, God. Thank You for a new year and a new day. I’m Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.
