For the evening of December 24. Often searched as “christmas eve prayers” or “catholic christmas eve prayer”.

Lord, it’s Christmas Eve. The house is getting quiet, the lights are on, and the waiting is almost over. On a night like this, You came into the world. Calm my busy mind. Let me sit for a moment with Mary and Joseph and the sleeping child, and simply worship. Thank You for coming, Jesus. Amen.

For reading the Christmas story together. Often searched as “christmas eve prayers and blessings”.

Father, our family is together on Christmas Eve. Thank You for each person here, and bless the ones we’re missing tonight. As we read the story again, of the shepherds, the angels, and the baby in the manger, let it feel new to us. Give the children sweet dreams and the grown-ups grateful hearts. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the moment the lights go down and the candles are passed.

For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Lord, as we hold our candles and sing Silent Night, let this be more than a tradition. Light one flame in me that stays lit after the service ends. For everyone in this room, especially the ones who came in hurting, let tonight be the night they know You are near. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before sleep on the night before Christmas.

Jesus, tonight the whole world remembers the night You were born. Before I sleep, I thank You for the gift of Yourself. Let me wake up tomorrow full of wonder, not just about the presents, but about You. Watch over everyone traveling tonight, and everyone spending this night alone. In Your name, amen.

The Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

Lord Jesus, today is Christmas Day. The Word became flesh and lived among us. Thank You for leaving heaven to share our ordinary life. Let me spend today aware that You are here: in the food, in the conversations, in the quiet moments. Help me carry the joy of this day into the rest of the year. In Your name, amen.

Before the paper starts flying.

Lord, before we tear open the paper, we stop to say thank You. Thank You for the people who chose these gifts with love, and for the means to give at all. Keep us from comparing or wanting more. Most of all, thank You for Jesus, the gift we didn’t earn and couldn’t buy. In His name, amen.

For the family gathered on Christmas Day.

Father, thank You for this Christmas Day and for everyone gathered here. Bless the hands that cooked and the ones who traveled far to come. Fill our home with laughter and our conversations with kindness. Where there are empty places at the table, comfort us. Let the love of Christ be the reason we’re glad to be together. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When the day is over and the house is finally quiet.

Lord, Christmas Day is done. Thank You for the good moments. The ones that didn’t go as planned, I leave with You. Like Mary, let me treasure these things and think about them in my heart. Give everyone in this house deep rest tonight. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the gifts and the noise.

Good morning, Lord, and happy birthday, Jesus. Before the gifts and the noise, I want to start Christmas with You. Thank You for coming to save us. Let today be full of real joy and patience with the people I love, and let everything I give and receive today point back to You. Amen.
