New Year Prayer

A new year starts January 1, 2027. Prayers for the year ahead, short enough to remember and specific enough to mean it.

“Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”Isaiah 43:18-19 · World English Bible

Often searched as “prayer for the new year”, “new year christian prayer”, or “catholic new year prayer”.

Lord, a new year is here. Thank You for carrying me through the last one, through the parts I’d repeat and the parts I’d rather forget. I give You this year before I’ve written anything in it. Take me where You want me this year. Make me more like Jesus by December than I am today. Whatever comes, let me walk through it with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

New Year prayers

Pick the one that fits today.

For the year 2027. Often searched as “prayer for 2027”.

Father, it’s 2027. I don’t know what this year holds, but I know You hold it. For every day of it, give me daily bread, daily grace, and daily courage. Where last year left me tired, renew me. Where it left me hurt, heal me. Let this be a year I seek You first. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Short enough to memorize and pray at midnight. Often searched as “short new year prayer”.

Lord, this year is Yours. Go before me, stay beside me, and bring me safely through. Make me faithful in small things and brave in big ones. Let me end this year closer to You than I began it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Two verses for a fresh start, and a short prayer built on them.

It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Lord, Your mercies are new every morning, and this is the newest morning of all. Make me a new creation in this new year. Let old habits pass away, and let something new grow in their place. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Pray it together on New Year’s Day. Often searched as “new year prayer for family and friends”.

Father, bless our family in this new year. Keep us healthy and safe. Help us forgive quickly, laugh often, and eat together more than we did last year. Guide the kids in their schools and friendships, and give us parents wisdom and patience. Whatever this year brings, hold us together and keep our home turned toward You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the goals you set, and the ones you’ve broken before.

Commit your deeds to the Lord, and your plans shall succeed. Proverbs 16:3

Lord, I’ve made my lists again: eat better, read more, worry less. You know how many of these I’ve broken before. Instead of trying harder on my own, I’m asking for Your help. Show me which goals matter to You. Give me the discipline to start small, the grace to restart when I slip, and the humility to let You change my plans. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For your job, your budget, and the bills coming in January.

Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17

Lord, bless the work of my hands this year. Give me good work and the strength to do it well. Help me spend wisely, give generously, and stay out of debt I can’t handle. Where money is tight, provide what we need, and keep me from fear. Let my work this year serve others and honor You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For your body, your mind, and the people you love who are starting the year sick.

Father, I ask You for health in this new year: strength for my body, rest for my mind, and peace in my heart. Help me take care of what You’ve given me. For anyone I love who is starting this year sick, bring healing, good doctors, and hope. Whatever my body does this year, keep my soul strong in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For when last year was the hardest one yet.

Lord, last year was hard. I lost things I didn’t expect to lose, and I’m walking into January tired. I’m not asking You to erase what happened. I’m asking You to make something new out of it. Do a new thing in me, like You promised. Make a way in this wilderness, and streams in this dry place. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the month after the fireworks. Often searched as “prayers for january”.

Lord, it’s January: cold mornings, short days, and a long list of fresh starts. When the excitement of New Year’s wears off, keep me going. Help me build habits that last past the second week. Bless the slow, quiet work of this month, and meet me in the dark mornings. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The first prayer of the year, on the morning of January 1.

Good morning, Lord. It’s the first morning of a brand-new year, and before I do anything else, it’s Yours. Thank You for waking me up to see it. Let the first words of my year be thank You, and let the rest of it follow from there. In Jesus’ name, amen.
