Prayers for My Son

The one to pray tonight.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

I have no greater joy than this, to hear about my children walking in truth. 3 John 1:4

Lord, I pray for my son. You know him better than I do. Protect him, guide him, and help him know he’s loved. Give him a good heart, a clear mind, and the courage to do what’s right. Let him walk with You all his life. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the road ahead.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8

Father, I pray for my son’s future. Open the right doors. Close the ones that aren’t good for him. Give him good friends and good work. Let him be a man of character. I trust You with the plans I can’t see. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When he’s out of sight.

Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more. Psalm 121:7-8

Lord, I can’t be with my son everywhere. You can. Guard him in the day and in the night. Keep him from harm and from bad influences. Bring him home safe, or bring him safely wherever he is. Hold him for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When you don’t know how to help.

The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18

God, my son is struggling, and I feel helpless. Show me how to help, and when to be quiet. Meet him where he is. Give him strength, and surround him with people who care. Don’t let him feel alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When he’s grown, and you’re still praying.

Father, my son is grown, and I can’t make his choices. But I can pray. Guide his decisions. Bless his work, his relationships, and his faith. Let me trust You with him as I always have. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the day takes him.

Lord, as my son starts his day, go with him. Give him focus, courage, and kindness. Bring him home safe. Remind him whose he is. In Jesus’ name, amen.
