Prayers for Guidance

The one to pray when you’re at a fork.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8

Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105

Lord, I need guidance, and I don’t know which way to go. Show me. Lead me in the way You want me to walk. Let Your word be a lamp to my feet. Shut the doors that should be shut, and open the right ones. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When you feel lost.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Father, I feel lost. Point me in the right direction. Make my paths straight. Help me trust You even when I can’t see the road. Let me hear Your voice behind me, saying, this is the way. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For a big choice.

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5

Show me your ways, Yahweh. Teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth, and teach me, For you are the God of my salvation, I wait for you all day long. Psalm 25:4-5

God, I have a big decision. Give me wisdom. Let me weigh it well, and not rush. Show me what is right. Give me peace about the choice, and the courage to make it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For work decisions.

A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps. Proverbs 16:9

Lord, guide my career. Show me where to work, and what to leave behind. Give me favor, wisdom, and integrity. Let me do work that matters. I commit my plans to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Direction that comes from Him, not from guessing.

Lord, I want divine direction, not just my best guess. Speak through Your word, through wise people, and through peace. Show me the next step, and give me courage to take it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When you need to hear from Him.

God, I need direction from You. I’m tired of guessing. Make Your will plain to me. Close the doors that shouldn’t open, and open the ones that should. I’ll follow You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the first decision.

Lord, guide me today. Show me what matters, and help me say no to the rest. Order my steps. Let me follow You in the small decisions. In Jesus’ name, amen.
