Prayers for God’s Blessings

A simple prayer to start with: ask Him to bless you, and to make you a blessing.

Father, I’m asking for Your blessing on my life today. Not just the things I want, but the things I need, and the things I don’t know to ask for. Bless my home, my work, and the people I love. Keep me from taking Your gifts for granted. Where You bless me, make me generous, so that what You give me doesn’t stop with me. I trust that Your plans for me are good. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before you ask for anything, bless Him.

I will bless Yahweh at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1

Praise Yahweh, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name! Psalm 103:1

Lord, today I want to bless You, not ask You for anything. You are good, You are faithful, and You have carried me this far. Everything in me praises Your name. I thank You for who You are, not only for what You give. Be honored in my life today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the start of a day when you need Him to show up.

Lord, I need Your blessing today. I’m not asking for an easy day. I’m asking You to go with me into every meeting, conversation, and decision. Bless what I put my hands to. Give me favor with the people I’ll meet, and wisdom when I don’t know what to say. Let me notice every good thing You give me today, even the small ones. I want to end this day knowing You were in it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Pray boldly. He invites you to ask.

God, You are able to do more than I can ask or imagine, so I’m asking boldly. Pour out Your blessing on my family, my health, my work, and my finances. Open the doors that only You can open. Break what has been holding me back. I’m not asking for a blessing I can show off. I’m asking for the kind that makes me more like You, and lets me bless others. Do more than I’m asking. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The prayer of Jabez, and the promise that God surrounds His people with favor.

Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border! May your hand be with me, and may you keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” God granted him that which he requested. 1 Chronicles 4:10

For you will bless the righteous. Yahweh, you will surround him with favor as with a shield. Psalm 5:12

Lord, like Jabez, I’m asking You to bless me indeed. Surround me with Your favor like a shield. Let Your hand be with me, and keep me from evil. Give me favor with the people who can help me, and with the ones I can help. I’m not asking so I can have more. I’m asking so I can do more of what You have given me to do. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A blessing you can pray over your family, a friend, or yourself.

‘Yahweh bless you, and keep you. Yahweh make his face to shine on you, and be gracious to you. Yahweh lift up his face toward you, and give you peace.’ Numbers 6:24-26

Yahweh will give strength to his people. Yahweh will bless his people with peace. Psalm 29:11

Lord, I’m speaking this blessing over my family and the people I love. Bless them, and keep them. Let Your face shine on them, and be gracious to them. Look on them with kindness, and give them peace. Where they’re tired, give them rest. Where they’re afraid, give them courage. Wherever they go today, let them know they are Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Short and easy to say aloud, before a meal, at bedtime, or when someone leaves.

Lord, bless this home, and everyone in it. Bless the table, the work, the rest, and the conversations. Let this be a place where Your peace lives. Bless those who come through our door, and those we say goodbye to. Keep us safe, keep us kind, and keep us close to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Thank Him for the blessings you already have, and ask Him to open your eyes to more.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17

For Yahweh God is a sun and a shield. Yahweh will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly. Psalm 84:11

Father, every good thing in my life came from You, and I haven’t thanked You enough. Open my eyes to the blessings I’ve stopped noticing: a roof, a meal, a friend, another morning. Where I’ve been looking only at what’s missing, turn my eyes to what You’ve given. I trust that You are good, and that You give good gifts. Thank You for being so generous. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the day begins, ask Him to bless it.

Lord, before this day begins, bless it. Bless the first thing I do, and the last. Bless the people I’ll talk to and the work I’ll do. Help me see Your hand in the ordinary moments, and thank You for them as they come. Let me be a blessing to someone today. I trust You with this day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
