Bedtime Prayers for Kids

Short, simple, and some of them rhyme. Bedtime prayers to say with your child, and one to pray over them.

“He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them.”Mark 10:16 · World English Bible

In a child’s own words. Often searched as “bedtime prayer for kids” or “night prayer for kids”.

Dear God, thank You for today. Thank You for my family, my friends, and my bed. I’m sorry for the times I wasn’t nice today. Please keep me safe while I sleep, and help me have happy dreams. Watch over everyone I love. I love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Pick the one that fits today.

A rhyme short enough for a three-year-old to learn by heart.

Thank You, God, for this good day, for my food and time to play. Keep me safe all through the night, till I wake with morning light. Bless my family, big and small. Jesus, thank You for us all. Amen.

Another rhyme, about not being afraid. Often searched as “childrens good night prayer”.

Now the sun has gone to bed, and it’s time to rest my head. Jesus, You are always near, so I do not need to fear. Hold me while I’m fast asleep. All my family, safely keep. Amen.

For monsters under the bed and bad dreams.

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3

Dear Jesus, it’s dark and I feel scared. But You can see in the dark, and it’s not dark to You at all. You’re right here in my room. Please help me feel brave and calm. Keep away bad dreams. Thank You that You never go to sleep, so You’ll watch me all night long. Amen.

You say a line, your child says it back.

Thank You, God, for today. Thank You for the people who love me. Thank You for my friends. Help me be kind tomorrow. Keep me safe tonight. I love You, Jesus. Amen.

For the littlest ones, just learning to fold their hands.

Night night, God. Thank You for today. Thank You for hugs and food and toys. Keep me safe while I sleep. I love You. Amen.

For a parent on a trip, a deployment, or at the other house tonight.

Dear God, someone I love is far away tonight, and I miss them. Please keep them safe wherever they are. Help them sleep well too, and let them know I love them. Bring them home soon, and help me be brave until then. Amen.

For a school night, or the night before the first day.

Dear God, tomorrow is a school day. Help me get good sleep tonight. Tomorrow, help me listen to my teacher, be a good friend, and try my best, even on the hard things. If someone is sad, help me be kind to them. Thank You for being with me at school too. Amen.

To pray quietly over your child once they’re asleep.

Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward. Psalm 127:3

Lord, here is my child, finally asleep. Thank You for every bit of them, even the hard parts of today. Guard their body, their mind, and their dreams. Grow them up to know You and love You. Where I failed them today, fill in the gaps. Bless them as they sleep, and give them a good morning. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For when they wake up.

Good morning, God! Thank You for keeping me safe all night. Thank You for a brand-new day. Help me be kind, listen well, and have fun today. Be with me everywhere I go. I love You! Amen.
