Before the house goes dark. Night prayers to cover your family, one room and one person at a time.

For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11

Father, as night falls, I bring You my family. Cover every person under this roof with Your protection: their bodies from harm, their minds from fear, their hearts from bitterness. Station Your angels at our doors. Where there is sickness, heal. Where there is tension, make peace. Let us all sleep safely tonight because You are watching over us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Thank You, God, for today and for everyone in this house. Forgive us for the times we were unkind today, and help us forgive each other too. Keep each of us safe tonight, in every room of this house. Give us good sleep and happy hearts in the morning. We love You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Walking through the house in your mind, room by room. Often searched as “family protection night prayer”.

Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain. Psalm 127:1

Lord, I walk through this house in my mind, room by room. Guard the front door and every window. Watch over the kids’ rooms and the dreams they’re dreaming. Protect the kitchen, the car in the driveway, and every person sleeping here. You are the keeper of this home. Nothing gets past You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the family group chat. Often searched as “goodnight prayer for family”.

Good night, family! Praying God watches over each of you tonight, wherever you’re sleeping. May He give you rest, protect you from harm, and wake you up to a good day tomorrow. I love you all. Amen.

Naming them one by one.

Lord, I name them before You one by one. My spouse: give them rest and a light heart. Each of my children: guard their dreams and their futures. My parents: keep them healthy and close to You. The ones far from home, and the ones far from You: bring them back. I trust You with every one of them tonight. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When it’s just you holding the family together.

Lord, it’s just me holding this family together tonight. You see how tired I am. Be the extra set of arms I don’t have. Watch over my kids while I sleep, and give me strength for tomorrow’s drop-offs, work, and dinners. Thank You for being a Father to my children, and a faithful companion to me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When the family is split between home and a hospital room.

Father, our family is split tonight. One of us is in a hospital bed, and the rest of us are at home, worried. Be with them in that room: ease their pain, guide the nurses through the night, and give them sleep. Be with us here too: calm our fears, and help us rest so we can be strong for them tomorrow. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the empty bedroom: college, the military, or a child who has wandered.

Lord, there’s an empty bed in this house tonight. You know where my child is, even when I don’t. Protect them, guide their choices, and surround them with good people. If they’ve wandered from You, keep calling them home. I can’t reach them tonight, but You can. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the morning after.

Good morning, Lord. Thank You for keeping all of us safe through the night. Bless every person in this house as they head out today: to school, to work, to wherever the day takes them. Bring us all back together tonight. In Jesus’ name, amen.
