Prayer for Job Interview

For the nerves, the waiting, and the door you hope God opens.

“Commit your works to Yahweh, and your plans shall be established.”Proverbs 16:3 · World English Bible

For the night before, or the minute before you walk in.

Lord, I have an interview, and I need You in the room. Calm my nerves and clear my mind. Help me remember what I know, and say it with honesty. Give me favor with the people I meet, and wisdom to ask good questions. I want this job, but I want Your will more. If this door is open, help me walk through it well. If it’s not, protect me from being crushed. Whatever happens, I trust that You are already ahead of me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Pick the one that fits today.

For the car, the waiting room, or the walk to the door. Say it quietly if you need to.

God, I’m about to walk in, and my heart is racing. Slow my breathing. Settle my thoughts. Remind me that my worth does not depend on what these people decide. Help me listen well before I speak. Give me the right words when they ask the hard questions. Let me be kind to everyone I meet, from the receptionist to the manager. Whatever happens in that room, I’m not walking in alone. You are with me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For asking God to prepare you, and to open the door that is right.

Father, I ask You for a good interview. Help me prepare well and then rest in what I’ve done. Give me clarity of mind and confidence that isn’t pride. Let my strengths be seen honestly, and my weaknesses handled with humility. Put it on the hearts of those interviewing to see what I could bring. Go ahead of me into that room. I’m asking for success, and I’m also asking for the grace to accept Your answer. Make this interview a step on the path You have for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For when nerves are loud and you can’t stop the what-ifs.

Lord, my mind won’t stop. What if I forget everything? What if they don’t like me? What if I don’t get it? I bring every one of those questions to You. Take them from my hands. Give me a peace that doesn’t make sense, the kind that settles my stomach and quiets my thoughts. Remind me that You’ve carried me through harder things than this. I’m going to do my best, and then I’m going to leave the rest with You. Thank You for being with me in this. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For when you’ve been searching for a long time, and this interview matters a lot.

God, I’ve been looking for work for a long time, and I’m tired. This interview feels like it carries so much. Hold me up. Help me not to bring my discouragement into the room, but to bring my hope. Remind me that You know my needs, and that You have never forgotten me. Provide for my family while I wait. Give me strength for one more try. If this is the job, open the door. If not, keep me from despair and lead me to the next step. I trust You with my future. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For when you only have a minute. Say it in the elevator.

Lord, be with me in this interview. Calm my heart, clear my mind, and give me the right words. Let me be honest and kind. Open the door that is right for me. I trust You with the outcome. Thank You for being here. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For someone you love who has an interview coming up. Pray it for them, or with them.

Father, I’m lifting up my friend. They have an interview, and I know they’re nervous. Give them peace and a steady mind. Help them remember who they are and what they have to offer. Give them the right words, and the courage to say them. Let the people interviewing see their character as well as their skills. Open the door that is best for them, and walk with them through whatever comes. Remind them that they are loved, whatever happens. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the waiting after the interview, when all you can do is trust.

Lord, the interview is over, and now I wait. Thank You for getting me through it. Forgive me for the answers I wish I’d given differently. I’m leaving them with You. Waiting is hard, and my mind wants to replay everything. Quiet it. Give me patience for the days ahead. Help me keep living, praying, and trusting while I wait. If the answer is yes, help me be grateful. If it’s no, help me be gracious and keep going. My future is in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the morning of the interview, before the nerves take over the day.

Lord, this is the morning of my interview, and I’m starting it with You. Thank You for this day and for the chance to be heard. Steady my heart before I leave the house. Help me eat, breathe, and walk out calm. Let me be on time, ready, and kind. Go with me into the room, and go ahead of me in the hearts of those I meet. I’m doing my part, and I’m trusting You with the rest. This day belongs to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
