Prayer for America

Prayers for our country that aren’t red or blue: for our leaders, our neighbors, and the people who are hurting.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.”Psalm 33:12 · World English Bible

Often searched as “prayers for america” or “prayer for the united states of america”.

Lord, I pray for America. Thank You for the freedoms we enjoy and the people who sacrificed for them. Where we are divided, bring us together. Where there is injustice, bring justice. Where there is hatred, teach us to love our neighbors, including the ones we disagree with. Heal our land, and turn our hearts back to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Prayers for our nation

Pick the one that fits today.

For the people who make up the country. Often searched as “prayers for our country”.

Father, I pray for our country, from the small towns to the big cities. Bless the farmers and factory workers, the teachers and nurses, the soldiers and first responders. Provide for families who are struggling. Comfort communities that are grieving. Make us a people known for kindness, honesty, and generosity. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A prayer of confession and turning back. Often searched as “prayer for our nation”.

Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. Proverbs 14:34

Lord, righteousness lifts up a nation, and sin is a disgrace to any people. Forgive us as a nation for the ways we have turned from You: our pride, our greed, our quickness to hate. Turn us back to You. Raise up people of integrity in every community, and let our country be a place where the weak are protected. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Two verses, and a short prayer built on them.

I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. 1 Timothy 2:1-2

He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8

Lord, I pray for everyone in authority over us, so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives. Teach our nation to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For leaders of every party: the ones you voted for and the ones you didn’t.

Father, I pray for our leaders: the President, Congress, the courts, our governors, mayors, and school boards. I pray for the ones I voted for and the ones I didn’t. Give them wisdom, honesty, and courage. Protect them and their families. Where they are wrong, change their minds. Where they are right, give them strength. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For a country that can’t talk to itself anymore.

Lord, we are so divided. Families don’t talk, neighbors don’t trust each other, and every conversation turns into a fight. Heal what politics has broken. Help me listen before I speak, and remember that the person across the aisle is made in Your image. Make me a peacemaker in my own small corner. In Jesus’ name, amen.

After another tragedy in the news.

The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18

God, our country is hurting again. Another act of violence, another tragedy, another family planning a funeral. Comfort the ones who are grieving tonight. Protect our schools, churches, and streets. Give wisdom to everyone working to keep us safe. And don’t let us grow numb to it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before you read the headlines.

Good morning, Lord. Before I read today’s headlines, I pray for our country. Calm the anger, heal the wounds, and protect the vulnerable. Help me do my small part today: be honest, be kind, and love my neighbor. In Jesus’ name, amen.
