Advent Prayers

Four weeks of waiting, starting Sunday, November 29, 2026. A prayer for each week, and for the waiting in your own life.

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who lived in the land of the shadow of death, on them the light has shined.”Isaiah 9:2 · World English Bible

The one to start the season with. Often searched as “prayer for advent” or “catholic advent prayers”.

He who testifies these things says, “Yes, I come quickly.” Amen! Yes, come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22:20

Lord Jesus, Advent is here, and I want to be ready for You this year. Not just ready for the parties and the presents, but ready for You. Quiet the rush in me. Clear a little room in my heart and in my calendar. As I wait for Christmas, teach me to wait for You, the One who came and who is coming again. Come, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Most churches give the four weeks four themes: hope, peace, joy, and love. The 2026 dates are on each card below. Often searched as “four weeks of advent prayers”.

Father, over these four weeks, teach me hope when the news is heavy, peace when the days get crowded, joy that doesn’t depend on how things go, and love that looks like Jesus. One candle and one week at a time, bring me closer to the manger and closer to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

First Sunday of Advent: November 29, 2026. The first candle. Often searched as “first sunday of advent prayer” or “advent prayer for hope”.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

God of hope, it’s the first week of Advent, and I’m bringing You the places where I’ve stopped hoping: the prayer that hasn’t been answered, the situation that hasn’t changed. You kept Your promise to send a Savior after centuries of silence. Light one small candle of hope in me this week, and keep it burning. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Second Sunday of Advent: December 6, 2026. Often searched as “second week of advent prayer”.

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. John 14:27

Prince of Peace, this is the second week of Advent, and the season is already getting loud. The lists are long and my patience is short. Settle my heart. Make peace in my home where there is tension, and in me where there is worry. Help me be the one who brings calm into the room, because You are near. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Third Sunday of Advent: December 13, 2026, the pink candle. Often searched as “third week of advent prayer”.

Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I will say, “Rejoice!” Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Philippians 4:4-5

Lord, it’s the third week of Advent, the week of joy. Some years joy comes easily, and some years it takes faith. Whatever this December holds for me, let me rejoice in You, because You are at hand. Give me the kind of joy the shepherds had: news so good they couldn’t keep it to themselves. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Fourth Sunday of Advent: December 20, 2026. Often searched as “fourth sunday of advent prayer”.

By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 1 John 4:9

Father, it’s the fourth week of Advent, and Christmas is almost here. You loved the world so much that You sent Your Son as a baby, small enough to hold. Let that love fill me this week. Make me patient with the people I’ll see at Christmas, generous with the ones who have less, and kind to the ones who are hard to love. In Jesus’ name, amen.

One short prayer to say every day until Christmas. Often searched as “advent prayer for today”.

Lord Jesus, one more day closer to Christmas. Today, help me notice You in the ordinary: in the line at the store, in the cold morning air, in the person who needs a kind word. Keep my heart awake and waiting. Don’t let me rush past the reason for all of this. Amen.

Advent is a season of waiting. This one is for whatever you are waiting on right now.

I wait for Yahweh. My soul waits. I hope in his word. My soul longs for the Lord more than watchmen long for the morning; more than watchmen for the morning. Psalm 130:5-6

God, Advent is about waiting, and I’m already waiting on something: a diagnosis, a job, a child, a reconciliation, an answer. Israel waited centuries for the Messiah, and You came right on time. Teach me to wait the way they did, with hope instead of despair. While I wait, let me find You here, in the middle of it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Simple enough for kids to say at bedtime or at the table. Often searched as “advent prayers for families”.

Dear Jesus, it’s almost Christmas, and I can hardly wait! While we count the days, help me remember that Christmas is Your birthday. Help me be kind to my family, share my things, and say thank You a lot. Thank You for coming to be with us. I love You, Jesus. Amen.

For the busiest month of the year. Often searched as “prayer for december preparation”.

Lord, December is here, the busiest month of my year. Before the calendar fills up, I give it to You. Help me say no to some things so I can say yes to You. Keep me from overspending and overcommitting. Let this month prepare my heart for Christmas, and not just my house. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the dark December mornings, before the day begins.

Good morning, Lord. It’s still dark outside, and You are the Light that came into the world. Before I start the day, I wait for You here, quietly. Wake me up to what You are doing this Advent, and let me carry a little of Your light into this day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
