Mark 10:15 Meaning

The verse, in its own words.

Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it. Mark 10:15

They were bringing to him little children, that he should touch them, but the disciples rebuked those who were bringing them. But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these. Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.” He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them. Mark 10:13-16

Lord, You said I must receive Your kingdom like a little child. I come as I am, with empty hands. I can’t earn it, so I receive it. Teach me to trust You the way a child trusts a parent. In Jesus’ name, amen.

What it asks, and what it doesn’t.

Jesus summoned them, saying, “Allow the little children to come to me, and don’t hinder them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these. Most certainly, I tell you, whoever doesn’t receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.” Luke 18:16-17

Father, help me understand this rightly. A child isn’t perfect or innocent, but a child trusts, receives, and doesn’t pretend to be self-sufficient. Make me like that. Let me let go of my pride, and take Your gift with open hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Start the day with open hands.

Lord, I start this day like a child: trusting, receiving, and leaning on You. I don’t have to have it all figured out. I’m Yours. In Jesus’ name, amen.
