Healing Prayer for a Friend

For the friend who is sick, in the hospital, or slowly getting better. Pray one now, or send it to them.

“Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.”James 5:16 · World English Bible

The one to pray right now.

Yahweh will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness. Psalm 41:3

Lord, my friend is sick, and I can’t make it better. You can. Touch their body where it hurts, and calm their mind where it’s afraid. Give the doctors clear eyes and steady hands. Let the medicine work. Let sleep come. And while they heal, let them feel how many people are carrying them to You. I’m one of them. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Healing prayers for a friend

Pick the one that fits today.

For when they cross your mind during the day. Often searched as “short healing prayer for a friend”.

Lord, heal my friend. Bring the fever down and the strength back. Make the recovery steady, even if it’s slow. Let them sleep well tonight and wake up a little better. Put them back on their feet soon. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When they’re in bed or in the hospital, and you can’t be there. Often searched as “a prayer for healing a sick friend”.

Father, I can’t sit by my friend’s bed tonight, so I’m sitting with You instead. Be in that room. Be in the beeping machines, the long hours, and the bad hospital food. Send a nurse who is kind and a doctor who listens. When they wake up in the middle of the night, don’t let them feel alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the day of the operation. Often searched as “prayer for surgery and healing for a friend”.

Lord, my friend goes into surgery soon. Guide the surgeon’s hands and the whole team around the table. Keep every step safe. Bring my friend out of the anesthesia gently, and into a recovery that goes the way it should. Hold their family in the waiting room. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Written to text them. Copy it, and add their name.

Friend, I’m praying for you today. I’m asking God to heal your body, rest your mind, and give you good news soon. You don’t have to reply. Just know you’re not carrying this by yourself. Lord, make my friend well, and let them feel You near. Amen.

For the long recovery, when they’re tired of being sick. Often searched as “prayer for strength and healing for family”.

God, healing is taking longer than anyone hoped. Give my friend strength for one more day of it: the exercises, the appointments, the waiting. When they’re discouraged, lift their head. When they’re in pain, give relief. Keep their family strong around them too. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the last stretch, back to normal life.

Heal me, O Yahweh, and I will be healed. Save me, and I will be saved; for you are my praise. Jeremiah 17:14

Lord, my friend is better, but not all the way. Finish what You started. Bring them all the way back: back to work, back to sleeping without pain, back to laughing. Don’t let anything linger that shouldn’t. And when it’s over, let them remember who carried them through. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When the doctors have said there is no cure.

Lord, the news about my friend is hard. I still ask You for healing, because nothing is impossible for You. But whatever comes, don’t let them be afraid. Fill their days with people who love them and moments that matter. Ease the pain. Give them peace with You. And give me the courage to keep showing up. In Jesus’ name, amen.

One line each, for anyone you’re praying for.

Lord, heal what hurts. Jesus, be near the one who is sick. Father, give rest to the body and peace to the mind. Holy Spirit, breathe strength into my friend today. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before your own day starts.

Lord, before I start my day, I’m thinking of my friend. Be with them as they wake up. Make today a little better than yesterday. Give them one good moment to hold on to. And remind me to check on them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
