Bible Verses for Anxiety

What the Bible says about anxiety and worry, with a short prayer for each verse.

“In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”Philippians 4:6 · World English Bible

The one to start with.

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul. Psalm 94:19

Lord, my mind won’t stop. I’m bringing every anxious thought to You. I can’t fix them all, but You can hold them. Give me the peace that doesn’t make sense, and let it guard my heart and my thoughts. Be the comfort in the middle of my worry. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Father, I’m worrying about things I can’t control. Teach me to take today as it comes, and leave tomorrow with You. Remind me that worrying doesn’t add a single hour to my life. Help me trust You with what’s ahead. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When anxiety and fear arrive together.

Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Isaiah 41:10

I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. Psalm 34:4

God, I’m afraid, and I’m anxious, and it’s hard to tell them apart. Be near. You told me not to fear, because You are with me. You answered me when I sought You before. Answer me now, and deliver me from my fears. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the days that are simply too much.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22

Lord, I’m tired of carrying everything. You said to come to You when I’m weary, and You’d give me rest. I’m coming. Take the weight. Give me a lighter load and a quieter mind. I trust You to sustain me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Small enough to remember in the middle of a panic.

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. Psalm 56:3

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a kind word makes it glad. Proverbs 12:25

When you’re afraid of what’s coming.

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient. Matthew 6:34

Lord, I’m afraid of what’s ahead. I can’t see it, so I imagine the worst. Remind me that You have plans for me, plans for good and not for evil. Give me hope, and a future that I can trust to You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the first worry of the day.

Lord, before the worries start, I give You this day. Settle my mind. Help me do what’s in front of me, and leave the rest with You. Let me feel Your peace before I feel anything else. In Jesus’ name, amen.
