Resurrection Prayers

Prayers about the resurrection, for Easter morning and for the ordinary days when something in you needs raising.

“But now Christ has been raised from the dead. He became the first fruits of those who are asleep.”1 Corinthians 15:20 · World English Bible

A prayer for the one thing the whole faith stands on. Often searched as “prayer about the resurrection” or “prayer on resurrection”.

He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying. Matthew 28:6

But now Christ has been raised from the dead. He became the first fruits of those who are asleep. 1 Corinthians 15:20

Lord Jesus, You were dead, and You are alive. Because You are alive, I do not have to be afraid of the end of anything. Let the power that raised You raise what is weary in me. Let the hope of the resurrection be more than a doctrine to me; make it the ground I stand on. Thank You for the empty tomb. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the morning of the feast. Often searched as “resurrection sunday prayer”.

Lord, on this Resurrection Sunday we do not come with a speech. We come with gladness. You are risen, and You are with us. We bring You our families, our cities, and our own small tombs. Roll away what weighs us down. Let this day be the beginning of something new. In Jesus’ name, amen.

To send with a greeting. He is risen!

Happy Resurrection Sunday! He is risen indeed. May this day bring you joy that does not depend on circumstances. May the risen Christ meet you in your home, your church, and your thoughts. May his peace be with you today and all week. We are praying for you.

Tired, numb, or stuck in an old habit.

We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4

Lord, something in me feels dead: my energy, my joy, my hope. I have been going through the motions. You raised Jesus from the grave, and You can raise this. I do not ask for a miracle to be forced; I ask You to come into the room. Start with one small thing. Bring me back to life, gently. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the first Easter after a death.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26

“Death, where is your sting? Hades, where is your victory?” 1 Corinthians 15:55

Lord, my heart is heavy this Easter. I miss the one I love. I cannot explain it, but I am holding on to what You said: that You are the resurrection and the life, and that those who believe in You will live. Hold them close. Hold me close. Let me hear You say, ’Do not be afraid.’ In Jesus’ name, amen.

For someone newly diagnosed, or struggling with an illness.

But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:11

Lord, I bring You someone who is sick. You raised Jesus from the dead, and You are the God who gives life. I ask for healing, as You see best. Give them comfort, strength, and hope. Surround them with good people. And let them know, whatever happens, that they belong to You, now and forever. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Say it slowly, one line on the inhale, one on the exhale.

He is risen. He is risen indeed. Lord Jesus, You are alive. I am Yours. Be with me in this breath. Be with me in the next. Amen.

When the buds come back, and the earth is waking up.

Lord of life, the ground is waking up, and so are we. Thank You for the green shoots, the long evenings, and the birds in the morning. All of creation waits for the day when everything will be made new. Make me a person who carries hope into the spring. In Jesus’ name, amen.

To read together after the meal, or on the drive home.

Lord Jesus, thank You for rising from the dead. Thank You that our family belongs to You, in life and in death. Let the news of Easter be real in our home this week. Help us forgive each other, speak kindly, and hope together. Raise up what is tired in each of us, and keep us close. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For a morning when you wake up tired.

Good morning, risen Lord. Thank You that Your mercies are new every morning, and that the same power that raised You is at work in my life today. Rise with me. Go with me into my work and my worries. Let me live this day as one who has been given a fresh start. In Jesus’ name, amen.
