Easter Dinner Prayer

Say grace on Easter Sunday: short ones for the table, a rhyme for the kids, a welcome for guests, and one for the empty chair.

“When he had sat down at the table with them, he took the bread and gave thanks. Breaking it, he gave it to them. Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he vanished out of their sight.”Luke 24:30-31 · World English Bible

The one to say when everyone is seated. Often searched as “prayer for easter dinner”.

When he had sat down at the table with them, he took the bread and gave thanks. Breaking it, he gave it to them. Their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he vanished out of their sight. Luke 24:30-31

Risen Lord, thank You for this table and for everyone around it. Thank You for whoever cooked, whoever set the table, and whoever will do the dishes. Bless this food, and bless this family. Let our laughter be a form of worship. We eat this meal in the joy of the resurrection. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A blessing for the table. Often searched as “easter dinner blessing”.

Blessed are You, Lord, who gives us this food and this day. Bless the table, bless the cook, bless every guest. May what we eat strengthen us, and may what we say to each other be kind. We eat as people who have been raised with Christ. Let us be glad together. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A slightly more formal grace for a bigger meal.

Heavenly Father, we sit down to this Easter supper with grateful hearts. Thank You for the new life You have given us in Christ. Thank You for the food on this table and for the people at it. Let this meal be a small sign of the feast to come, where everyone has a seat. Bless us, and use us to bless others. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the family that likes a real prayer before the meal.

Lord, it is Easter Sunday, and You are risen. We thank You for the church service we came from or watched, for the people we love, and for the hope that holds us together. Bless this dinner with peace. Where there is tension between us, give us patience. Where there is sorrow, give us comfort. We are glad to be here. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Thirty seconds, for a hungry table.

Lord, thank You for this food, for this family, and for Easter. Christ is risen, and we are glad. Bless our meal, and bless each one here. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A grace the children can say. Say each line, and let them repeat it.

Thank You, God, for Easter day. Thank You, Jesus, for the way that You rose up and made us new. Thank You for the food and thank You for the family too. Bless the hands that made our meal. Bless each friend and bless us all. Amen.

When someone new is at the table, whatever they believe.

Lord, thank You for the guests at our table today. Let them feel welcome from the first moment. Bless them with good food and good company, and let this be a place where everyone is wanted. We thank You for the gift of Easter and for the joy of sharing a meal. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the first Easter without someone.

I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you. John 14:18

Lord, there is a chair that is empty today, and we all see it. Thank You for the one who sat there. Hold them in Your care, and hold us. Let us laugh at the old stories, and let us cry if we need to. You said You would not leave us as orphans. Be at our table, risen Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For a quiet meal, a hospital tray, or a work shift.

Lord, I am eating by myself today. It is a quieter Easter than I wanted. But You are here. Thank You for this food, and for knowing me by name. Let me think of the people I love, and of Your love for me. Make this plain meal a holy one. In Jesus’ name, amen.

While the dishes are being cleared.

Thank You, Lord, for this meal and for every voice at it. Thank You for the stories, the second helpings, and the grace we gave each other. Bless the ones who clean up, and the ones who are driving home. Keep us safe, and keep the joy of this day alive in us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the oven goes on and the house fills up.

Good morning, Lord. It is Easter, and the day is going to be busy. Before the cooking and the cleaning and the people arrive, I give You this morning. Help me be present, not just productive. Let the table be a place of joy. Christ is risen. In Jesus’ name, amen.
