Prayers for a Broken Heart

The one to start with.

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3

Lord, my heart is broken, and I don’t know how to put it back together. I bring You the pieces. Hold them. Heal me slowly. Let me know You are near, and let me not be ashamed of how much it hurts. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For yourself, or someone you know.

The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18

Father, I pray for the brokenhearted, myself and others. You are close to every one of us. Comfort us. Give us people to lean on, and strength for each day. Turn our mourning into joy in time. In Jesus’ name, amen.

After a breakup, a betrayal, or a loss.

God, I’m heartbroken. The person I trusted hurt me. Help me not to be bitter. Help me not to rush into anything. Heal me first. Show me who I am in You, apart from what I lost. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the long road of healing.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:17

Lord, I’m asking You for healing, the slow kind. Mend what’s broken at the root. Restore my joy, my trust, and my hope. Let what hurt me not define me. Make me whole, one day at a time. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When you want it to stop hurting.

Father, I want this to mend. I’m tired of hurting. Please begin the mending, even if it’s small. Give me a good day soon, and the patience for the rest. Thank You for every sign of healing. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For a heart that simply hurts.

Lord, my heart hurts. I don’t have a reason big enough. It just hurts. Be near. Heal it slowly. Let me not be ashamed of how much I feel. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The long road after the break.

Lord, I pray for the heartbroken. Be close to each of us. Give us comfort, rest, and kind people. Let none of us be alone in this. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For a woman who’s carrying it quietly.

Father, I’m a woman carrying a broken heart quietly, and I’m tired of holding it together. Let me fall apart in Your hands. Hold me, and put me back together. In Jesus’ name, amen.

After a relationship ends.

Lord, my relationship ended, and I’m devastated. Help me grieve without bitterness. Remind me who I am in You, apart from them. Heal me, and in time, give me peace about it. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Short, for the day you can’t do much.

Lord, my heart is sad, and I’m tired. Give me enough strength for the next small thing. Be here with me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the hurt that comes from words.

Father, my feelings are hurt. Someone said something that stung. Heal the sting. Keep me from replaying it. Help me forgive, and remember what You say about me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Start gently.

Lord, I made it to another morning. Give me what I need today, and not more. Help me eat, rest, and be kind to myself. In Jesus’ name, amen.
