Prayers Against Slander and Lies

Prayers for when someone is spreading lies about you, and you need God to set the record straight.

“Deliver my soul, Yahweh, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.”Psalm 120:2 · World English Bible

When people are talking about you, and none of it is true.

Deliver my soul, Yahweh, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. Psalm 120:2

God of my praise, don’t remain silent, for they have opened the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of deceit against me. They have spoken to me with a lying tongue. They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause. In return for my love, they are my adversaries; but I am in prayer. Psalm 109:1-4

Lord, You see what’s being said about me, and You know it isn’t true. Deliver me from lying lips. Stop the gossip before it spreads any further. Don’t let the lies define me. Defend my name, and give me peace while You do. Keep me from answering lies with lies. I trust You to be my defender. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Ask Him to bring what is hidden into the light.

Father, You see everything done in secret. Bring the truth into the light. Expose every lie that’s been told about me, and everyone behind it. Let what is hidden be revealed, and let what is false fall apart. Do it in Your way and in Your time, and let me stay quiet and honest until then. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the ones who talk, and the part of you that wants to talk back.

Who, when he was cursed, didn’t curse back. When he suffered, didn’t threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously. 1 Peter 2:23

Lord, I know people are talking about me, and it hurts. Keep me from bitterness, and from the urge to talk back. Remind me that You know me, and that Your opinion is the one that matters. Take the sting out of what they’re saying. Bless them, and turn their words into nothing. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For when you’ve been accused of something you didn’t do.

Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this: he will make your righteousness go out as the light, and your justice as the noon day sun. Psalm 37:5-6

God, I’ve been accused of something I didn’t do, and I need Your help. You know the truth. Don’t let the accusation stand. Clear my name, and give the right people the right information. I put my way in Your hands, and I trust You to bring out my righteousness like the light. Keep me calm while I wait. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When you just want the truth to come out.

Lord, I’m asking for the truth to come out. I’m tired of the confusion and the half-truths. Show what is real. Give the people who need to know the clarity to see it. Make me patient while You work, and honest in everything I say and do. Let the truth set things right. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The harder prayer: for the ones who started it.

Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matthew 5:11-12

Father, I pray for the people who are speaking against me. I don’t understand why they’re doing it, but You do. Soften their hearts. Show them what they’re doing, and give them a reason to stop. Don’t let me hold on to this. Help me forgive, even while I ask You to set things right. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the day starts, guard your own tongue too.

Lord, before the day begins, guard my mouth. Keep me from adding to the gossip, even when it’s about someone who hurt me. Let my words be true and kind. And protect my name from whatever is being said. I trust You with my reputation today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
