The Sword of the Spirit

The verse, and what it means.

For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11

Lord, You gave me a sword: Your word. Help me carry it, know it, and use it. When I’m tempted, let me answer with what You’ve said. When I’m afraid, let me remember what You’ve promised. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Jesus used it in the wilderness.

But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4

Jesus, You answered every temptation with Scripture. Teach me to do that. Let me learn it by heart, speak it when I’m tested, and trust it more than my feelings. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Lord, before the day starts, put Your word in my hands. Let it be the first thing I reach for. Make me ready for what comes. In Jesus’ name, amen.
