Prayers for Mental Health

The one to start with.

You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3

For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7

Lord, I ask for a healthy mind. Quiet the noise. Keep me steady when my thoughts race. Heal what is hurting, and give me peace. Show me what I need: rest, people, help. Let me not be ashamed to take care of my mind. In Jesus’ name, amen.

When your thoughts won’t settle.

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Father, give me peace of mind. Help me bring each worry to You as it comes, and leave it there. Let me rest, and let me think clearly. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For the first step.

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

God, I need help, and it’s hard to ask. Give me the courage to tell someone. Lead me to a person or a place that can help. Let me not wait until it’s worse. Thank You that asking is strong. In Jesus’ name, amen.

For when it’s too much at once.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Lord, I’m overwhelmed. Everything is too much. Help me do the next small thing. Take the weight I can’t carry. Let me breathe. You are with me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Before the day asks everything.

Lord, give me a steady mind today. Help me be kind to myself. Let me notice when I need a break, and take it. Thank You for being near. In Jesus’ name, amen.
